Using Custom Tags to Track Poll Votes

The custom tags feature allows you to append custom tags to the vote URL. These tags will then help identify a vote in the poll reports.

A custom tag is data relevant to you that you want to associate with a particular vote (e.g., a customer reference number, email address, name, etc.).

To use this feature you need to add an array of custom tags before the poll JavaScript file is requested. Each time the page with the poll is loaded, the values of this array can be changed allowing you to make each vote unique and identifiable.

So, if you wanted to add the following custom tags …

customer_ref : 101
email : johnny@gmail.com
gender : male

… you would populate the array variable pd_tags.

<script type="text/javascript" charset="utf-8" >
var pd_tags = new Array;
pd_tags['customer_ref'] = '101';
pd_tags['email'] = 'johnny@gmail.com';
pd_tags['gender'] = 'male';
</script>
<script type="text/javascript" charset="utf-8" src="http://static.polldaddy.com/p/3191508.js"></script>

* It’s important to place the script tag that contains the tag array before the script tag that references the poll JavaScript file.

The tag data will appear in the vote analysis report.

When you export the data from the poll report, the tags will be included. This offers another method of filtering through the vote data based on the values of the custom tags.
