Survey filters

Survey filters are a feature that will create a sub set of responses based on conditions that you specify. You can only enable one filter at one time. The results of this enabled filter will be obvious in all the reports and will help you analyze your data in more depth.

You can create a filter by going to your survey overview report, click on the ‘Create a new filter’ link and you will be directed to the filter form.

Create a new filter

In the filter form, you have two options to filter the data, filter by responses and/or filter by properties.

Filter by responses

Here you can specify conditions to what answers to the survey questions are allowed.

For text based question types, you can set a condition where the answer text must have either all of/some of/exactly the text in the text field.
Text based questions are the following.

  • Text (Single)
  • Text (Paragraph)
  • Email Address
  • URL
  • Name
  • Postal Address

Text based question types

For the Date/Time question type, you can set a condition where the answer date must be before/after/exactly the date entered in the date field.
The date must comply to the format YYYY-MM-DD, where YYYY is the year (i.e. 2009), MM is the month (i.e. 01 is January – 12 is December) and DD is the days date.

Date/Time question type

For the Multiple choice question type, you can specify up to three different conditions.
You can specify one/any of the options.

Multiple choice - choose one
If the question allows multiple answers, you can specify the number of options answered.

Multiple Choice - choose many
If the question has an other field, you can specify a text answer that must have either all of/some of/exactly the text in the text field.

Multiple Choice - Other text

For the Matrix question type, you can specify one/any of the rows and columns.

Matrix question type

You can create multiple filters. If you have more than one filter, you will be given the option to combine the results using the logic, AND, OR or a custom logical expression. For the custom logical expression, each filter is labeled like [F1], [F2], [F3], … , [Fn] and you can use the logic AND, OR and NOT to form a logical expression. It is advised to use parentheses where you want the results of some combination of filters to be unambiguous.

  • End Date
  • Total Response Time
  • Country
  • IP Address
  • Respondent Tags

The start and end date properties allow you enter a begin and end date into date fields and all the responses that fall between these dates will pass through the filter. The date fields must comply to the format YYYY-MM-DD, where YYYY is the year (i.e. 2009), MM is the month (i.e. 01 is January – 12 is December) and DD is the days date.

Start and end date properties

The total response time property allows you specify the amount of time taken to finish the survey. The timeframe can be set from seconds, minutes or hours.
