What is a widget?
The idea of a widget is to help save you time placing polls on your website. In your PollDaddy account you can create a widget and assign a poll to it. Once you insert your widget code into the HTML of your web page, you can then control from your PollDaddy account, which poll you want to appear there. If you don’t assign a poll to your widget then no poll will appear there. If you plan to place polls on your web page from time to time, then a widget will save you a lot of time, as will only have to edit your HTML once.
How do I create a widget?
To create a poll widget, click on the ‘Polls’ drop down menu at the top of the page and choose ‘Widgets’.
Click on the ‘Create a New Widget’ button at the top of this screen. You will then be brought to a form with 2 fields. For ‘Widget Name’ you can enter a descriptive name for your widget so that you can identify it again. You can also ‘Choose a poll’ to associate with this widget.
When you are finished click ‘Save & Continue’. Your new widget should now be created. On the next screen there will be some JavaScript for you to copy and paste into your website. Wherever you paste this code is where your widget will appear. Once you have pasted the code into your website, the poll you choose earlier should appear in that place on your website.
You can change the Poll that appears by simply logging into your PollDaddy account and navigating to Polls > Widgets. Pick your widget from the list and click on ‘Edit Widget’, and then change the poll in drop down. You do not need to paste the JavaScript code into your website again. The poll should just change automatically. If you choose ‘Unassigned’ for the poll, then nothing will appear in the widget. This is useful for when you don’t want to show a poll.
How do I place a widget on my website?
Once you have created a widget, go to the ‘widget code’ page. On that page you will find some HTML in a green box. You must choose a place on your website where you want your poll to appear, and then paste that piece of HTML into your web page. If you are unfamiliar with how to edit your web page, then talk to the person in charge of your website and ask them to do it!
